ABOUT US
Hi, my name is Mike Irwin and I am the owner of BicycleFit Rx, LLC, which has been over 20 years in the making. I started sweeping floors and emptying trash at a bicycle shop and then moved into a mechanic position, later service manager, and manager. I have worked at multiple shops in Manhattan, Kansas and Wilmington, North Carolina. I was also a USCF Cat 3 bicycle race mechanic. USCF (United States Cycling Federation) is now USACycling. I also attended Schwinn Bicycle School, the bicycle mechanic school that trained many bicycle mechanics while the Schwinn family still owned the Schwinn name. Yes, I have what might be considered by many as some "classic" knowledge, but not out of date.

After working in bicycle shops for about 10 years I decided to go back to school in Occupational Therapy. During my bicycle shop years I fit people to their bicycles but was always left with some individuals that just could not get comfortable. For this and many other reasons I chose the field of occupational therapy. At the time I could only dream that I would be able to apply both my cycling background and therapy practice directly into a business that brought together my knowledge, talents, and interests.

I love cycling. I love rehabilitation therapy. I love bicycle fitting. I will provide you with the best fitting experience possible. I will make sure you know as much about why I am doing what I do during the fit as I can. I am constantly learning new things about bicycles and therapy practice techniques, most of which can be applied back to the ergonomics of a bicycle fit. I also continue to work with other fitters and fitting educational programs to learn new techniques and apply them when needed in fitting.

I can fit all rider skill levels and body types in many cases helping them produce more power, reduce the risk of repetitive injury, and ride more comfortably. However, my specialty is in those cyclists who ride in pain, have had injuries and ride in pain, or want to return to riding. I have worked in sports therapy but have experience in a wide variety of therapy settings and techniques. Over the years I have worked with a multitude of persons with injuries and disabilities from acute hospital settings to outpatient rehab, helping me to better understand your situation and what can be done to get you riding comfortably again.

If you have any questions about fitting please read more on this site. The information and links will give you more information than you probably need. Contact me and I will answer your questions personally. I enjoy talking cycling and fitting. If you have not had your bicycle fitted to you, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. I believe you will be very pleased with the results.
